The Savage Arms Axis 2 XP is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .308 Win, built for left-handed shooters and configured with everything needed to get shooting the same day. The user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you dial in pull weight to your preference, and the included 3-9x40 scope handles most hunting distances without an additional purchase.
The AccuTrigger is the headline feature here. Adjustable pull weight means you're not stuck with whatever the factory set, and shooters generally find this meaningfully improves shot consistency. The 3-9x40 scope is a serviceable starter optic that works well at typical hunting ranges. At 7.7 lbs., the rifle is on the moderate side for a synthetic-stocked bolt gun, though the synthetic construction handles rain and rough handling without issue.
The left-hand configuration means the bolt handle, ejection port, and safety are all mirrored. It's not an afterthought adaptation but a purpose-built layout.
The .308 Win chambering covers deer, hogs, and similar game with authority. At 42.5" overall with a 22" barrel, it's a standard field-length rifle rather than a compact setup. Integral swivel studs make sling attachment straightforward, and the detachable 4-round box magazine speeds reloading compared to fixed-box designs.
The group we just shot there makes you wonder why you'd buy an expensive 308 rifle.
I mean, it's really an all-around great hunting rifle.
I think the bolt issue has been resolved.
Unlocks with more force than I would expect you'd need for this kind of rifle.
The trigger on the rifle definitely leaves something to be desired.

Left-handed shooters consistently rate this rifle well. Purpose-built left-hand configurations are still uncommon at this price point, and the Axis II XP fills that gap. The AccuTrigger draws the most praise across reviews: adjustable, with a clean break that beats what most competitors offer in this range. Out-of-the-box accuracy is frequently reported as good, with shooters hitting acceptable groups without a break-in period.
The included 3-9x40 scope is workable but polarizing. Buyers who are new to the platform appreciate having a complete setup without additional cost; experienced shooters often swap it for a better optic and treat the included scope as a bonus. Some users note the bolt throw is slightly stiff when new and smooths with use.
At the price, the most common criticism is materials feel. The synthetic stock is functional and weather-resistant but doesn't feel premium. At 7.7 lbs., a few buyers find it heavier than expected for a synthetic rifle, particularly those planning long carry days. The matte black finish has shown wear with heavy use in some reports. None of these complaints are deal-breakers for the majority of reviewers, who generally recommend it as a solid entry-level left-hand bolt rifle.
