The Taurus TH40 is a semi-automatic handgun chambered in .40 S&W. The caliber sits between 9mm and .45 ACP on the recoil spectrum, giving shooters decent stopping power without the snappier feel of a full-size .45. The polymer frame keeps weight down at 28.2 oz, and the accessory rail on the dust cover makes adding a light or laser straightforward.

The TH40 runs a double/single action trigger, so the first pull is longer and heavier; subsequent shots are lighter in single-action mode. Novak drift-adjustable sights let you dial in point of impact without swapping parts. Safety systems include a manual safety, firing pin block, and loaded chamber indicator, all standard fare for a duty-style pistol in this price range.

The Taurus TH40 .40 S&W draws consistent commentary around a handful of recurring topics.

Price is usually the first thing mentioned. Buyers treat it as an entry point into the .40 S&W format without spending Glock or S&W money, and most feel the value holds up.

Reliability reports are generally positive across range sessions and self-defense use, though a minority of owners, usually with older production runs, have noted feeding or ejection hiccups. Not widespread, but worth knowing before buying used.

The grip fits a wide range of hand sizes and most users find it comfortable. Some do note it feels bulkier than slimmer 9mm options of similar capacity, which matters for concealed carry.

Accuracy gets favorable marks. Shooters report consistent groupings with moderate practice, nothing unusual for a 4.27-inch barrel in this caliber.

The gray frame finish splits opinion: some like the two-tone look, others would prefer all-black. Strictly cosmetic either way.

Aftermarket support is thinner than what you get with Glock or M&P, both in holsters and internal parts. Not a dealbreaker, but worth factoring in if customization matters to you.

Taurus customer service experiences vary. Some owners report smooth warranty handling; others describe slow response times. The inconsistency shows up regularly in forum threads.
