• 22-inch Barrel: Gives a useful velocity advantage over shorter barrels while keeping overall length reasonable.
• .400 Legend Caliber: Designed for straight-wall cartridge hunting regulations that apply in many Midwestern states. Recoil is moderate.
• Bolt Action: Consistent extraction and feeding; the action cycles cleanly without drama.
• Weight: At 6.75 lbs, the XPR sits on the heavier side of its class, good for recoil absorption at the bench, though noticeable on long carries.

Usage Scenarios

• Deer Hunting in Straight-Wall States: The .400 Legend was built for this application and the XPR delivers it at a practical price point.
• Range Work: The 22-inch barrel and M.O.A. trigger system produce consistent groups; it holds its own as a dedicated range rifle.

Owners of the XPR .400 Legend in black generally rate it well. Build quality comes up frequently. The action cycles smoothly and the construction feels solid for the price bracket. The bolt throw gets mentioned positively in hands-on reviews.

The .400 Legend cartridge draws interest on its own. Hunters in states with straight-wall cartridge requirements find the caliber practical, and recoil is light enough that most shooters can stay on target for follow-up shots without issue.

The main criticisms are specific: a few users want better scope rail options out of the box, and some feel the factory trigger, while serviceable, could be crisper. Pricing generates mixed reactions. Most buyers consider it fair for the quality on offer, while a handful compare it unfavorably to competing models at similar price points.

On balance the XPR .400 Legend has a straightforward reputation: reliable, accurate enough for hunting use, and an honest value for what it costs.
