The CZ 457 Varmint (model 02408) is a bolt-action rimfire rifle chambered in .17 HMR. It has a heavy 20.5-inch threaded barrel with a nitride finish and a Turkish walnut varmint-style stock. The rifle feeds from a 5-round detachable magazine and has no iron sights, relying instead on an 11mm dovetail rail for mounting a scope.

Detailed Features

• The 20.5-inch heavy barrel is threaded, so a muzzle brake or suppressor can be mounted directly.
• The nitride finish covers the metal components for corrosion resistance.
• The Turkish walnut stock is cut in a varmint profile for a stable rest position when shooting from a bag or bipod.
• An 11mm dovetail on the receiver accepts standard rimfire scope mounts.
• The rifle ships without iron sights, since it is built around scope use, and feeds from a 5-round detachable magazine.

The CZ 457 line has a strong reputation among rimfire shooters for a smooth bolt and a trigger that feels better than most rifles in its class, and the Varmint model in .17 HMR continues that pattern. Owners generally describe the action as consistent once the rifle is broken in.

The heavy barrel adds weight up front, which some owners like for steadier offhand and rested shooting but others find less pleasant to carry on a long walk. The walnut stock gets praise for fit and finish, though a few owners note it picks up scratches more easily than a synthetic stock would.

Because the 457 shares parts with other CZ rimfire models, aftermarket stocks and triggers are easy to find. Most owners consider the Varmint a solid step up from an entry-level rimfire rifle, worth the extra cost for the trigger and barrel alone.
