Horizon Firearms builds the Vandal DM around an XLR Element 4.0 aluminum chassis instead of a traditional wood or synthetic stock. It is chambered in 22 Creedmoor and carries a 22-inch, black chrome, spiral-fluted, threaded barrel with a 1:8 inch twist. Feeding comes from an AICS-pattern magazine with 10+1 capacity, and the rifle weighs about 8.13 pounds.

Shooters moving into precision competition often bring up the Vandal DM as a step past a traditional hunting-style bolt rifle. The aluminum chassis gets praised for holding zero across cleanings and transport, and the TriggerTech trigger is a common point of praise for a clean, repeatable break. A few owners note that a chassis rifle shoulders differently than a wood or synthetic stocked gun, so there is some adjustment involved.

Adjustability of the Element 4.0 chassis is a strong point on the mat or at the bench, letting a shooter set length of pull and cheek height instead of living with a fixed stock. The integrated ARCA rail is popular for mounting a bipod or tripod head without extra adapters. Some owners do mention the added weight of a full chassis system compared to a standard stock, which matters more if you are carrying the Vandal DM any distance.

On value, owners tend to weigh the Vandal DM against other chassis-based rifles built for competition and see it as competitive for what ships in the box. The AICS-pattern magazine well is a plus for aftermarket support, since compatible magazines come from several makers.
