Owners of Kimber's 1911 line, including the DS Warrior, generally praise the tight tolerances and crisp factory trigger. The long-slide 10mm format adds noticeable heft over a standard-length 1911, and some shooters say it takes a session or two before the extra length and weight settle into a natural point of aim.

The DS Warrior isn't built for concealment. Its long slide and optics-ready cut make it better suited to open carry, range work, or field use where the extra sight radius and red dot compatibility pay off. Owners who mount an optic report the RMR footprint lines up cleanly, though a few note they had to adjust screw length depending on the optic chosen.

10mm ammunition costs more and is less universally stocked than 9mm or .45 ACP, which some DS Warrior owners weigh against the platform's flatter trajectory and added stopping power. Because it follows the 1911 footprint, aftermarket holsters and grips are easy to find, though long-slide-specific holsters narrow the field compared to a standard-length 1911.
