The Uberti 1858 New Army is a close reproduction of the original Civil War-era percussion revolver, chambered in .44 caliber with a single-action mechanism and 8-inch barrel holding 6 rounds. Milled safety slots in the cylinder follow the original pattern, and the walnut grips and brass trigger guard are period-correct details that also serve practical purposes. The grips give a comfortable, stable hold and the brass guard contrasts the blued barrel finish in a way that reads as genuinely 19th-century rather than decorative.
Owners of the Uberti 1858 Heritage .44 SA tend to focus on two things: how closely it mirrors the original design, and how it actually shoots. On authenticity, the consensus is positive. The finish, cylinder markings, and grip profile hold up to scrutiny from collectors familiar with original 1858s. At the range, most report reliable function and decent accuracy for a percussion revolver at typical target distances.
Practical critiques are mild but consistent. Because it is a replica, some users track wear more carefully than they would with a modern firearm, particularly on high-contact surfaces after heavy use. A few compare it on price against other black-powder revolvers and find it on the higher end, though most conclude the fit and finish justify it. For cowboy action shooting specifically, it gets recommended often as a viable match gun, not just a display piece.
