The Uberti 1858 New Army Stainless is a black-powder percussion revolver in .44 caliber, a reproduction of the Remington 1858 New Army. It does not fire cartridges: each of its 6 chambers is loaded from the front with loose powder and a lead ball, and fired by a percussion cap on a nipple at the rear of the cylinder. Like the original, it is a single action, so the hammer is cocked by hand before every shot.
Target shooters in particular note improved consistency at range distances.
The stainless finish gets good marks for durability. Owners mention it holds up without much maintenance, and the look is clean.
The build is solid and the revolver feels it, which most owners accept but some find tiring over extended sessions. On balance, user feedback reflects appreciation for the accuracy and construction, with the main reservations coming down to personal preference on ergonomics and format.
