The Chiappa Rhino Nebula 60DS is a .357 Magnum revolver built around Chiappa's bottom-cylinder firing design. The barrel aligns with the lowest chamber rather than the top, which drops the bore axis and reduces muzzle rise noticeably compared to conventional revolvers. The Nebula Mix Color finish is eye-catching, somewhere between a swirled paint effect and a cerakote pattern, so this one reads as much as a collector's piece as a working gun.

Detailed Features

The low bore axis is the Rhino's defining mechanical feature. By firing from the bottom chamber, the recoil force travels more directly back into the hand rather than rotating the muzzle upward, which translates to faster target reacquisition between shots. Adjustable fiber optic sights work well in variable lighting and can be dialed in for individual preference. At 2.1 lbs with a 6-inch barrel, it's on the lighter end for this class of revolver. The total length of 10.5 inches is noted as concealed-carry friendly, though 6-inch barrel revolvers are more commonly carried as duty or competition guns.

Target Audience

The Rhino appeals to shooters who want something mechanically different from a traditional top-ejecting revolver, and who are willing to pay for the unusual aesthetics. Competition shooters looking for reduced muzzle flip in .357 Mag will find the bottom-barrel design genuinely useful. Collectors drawn to unconventional designs have another reason to own one with the Nebula finish.

Usage Scenarios

On the competition side, the low muzzle rise benefits anyone shooting timed events where split times matter. For home defense, the 6-round capacity and adjustable sights are solid, and the .357 Mag chambering also accepts .38 Special loads. The Nebula finish makes it a strong display piece as well.

Reactions to the Chiappa Rhino Nebula 60DS split pretty cleanly along aesthetic lines. Shooters who find the angular, unconventional design appealing tend to be enthusiastic overall, while traditionalists are skeptical before they even get to the specs.

The bottom-barrel firing mechanism draws genuine praise from people who've actually shot it. Reduced muzzle rise in .357 Magnum is noticeable, and users who shoot the Rhino alongside conventional revolvers usually confirm the design does what Chiappa claims. The Nebula finish generates a lot of conversation at the range, mostly positive, though a few find it garish.

Ergonomics get a split verdict. Many shooters find the grip comfortable and the balance good for the 6-inch configuration; others need time to adapt because the grip angle and weight distribution differ from standard revolvers. Build quality feedback is mixed. Some owners report a solid, well-assembled gun, while others feel certain parts or tolerances don't match the $1,509 price tag.

The price is the main sticking point in online discussions. At that MSRP, buyers are comparing it against established competition revolvers and finding the value argument harder to make unless the low bore axis or the finish are specific priorities. Overall, the Rhino Nebula has a dedicated following among shooters who want something genuinely different, but it's not a universal recommendation.
