The Savage Axis 2 XP is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .308 Win, built around a 20-inch threaded barrel with a matte black carbon steel finish. It comes as a 4+1 capacity package with a factory-mounted 3-9x40 scope already bore-sighted, so it is ready to hunt without adding optics separately.

Owners of the Savage Axis line tend to talk about it as a dependable, no-frills hunting rifle rather than a showpiece. The AccuTrigger on the Axis 2 XP gets consistent praise for breaking cleaner than many rifles in this price range, and buyers appreciate that the trigger pull is user-adjustable instead of fixed from the factory.

Fit and carry comments are mixed. Hunters who spend long days in the field like the lighter overall weight and the ergonomic stock, though a few note the synthetic furniture flexes more than a wood or higher-end composite stock would. The pre-mounted 3-9x40 scope is generally seen as a real convenience since it removes a step before the rifle can go afield.

On value, the Axis 2 XP is usually compared favorably against pricier bolt guns, with owners calling out the threaded barrel and adjustable length of pull as features not always found at this price point. The aftermarket for Axis-pattern stocks and chassis is active, and some buyers plan an upgrade down the line even though the rifle shoots fine as it comes.
